Mostafa Sarwar Farooki’s latest feature film “Third Person Singular Number” is competing at the Middle East International Film Festival 2009. The festival — being held in Abu Dhabi — started on October 8 and will continue till October 17. Farooki’s film will be screened at the festival today and tomorrow.
“Third Person Singular Number” is the only South Asian film participating at the festival. Farooki’s film is one of 18 entries vying for the ‘Black Pearl Award’ along with prize money worth US $100,000.
Inspired by Syed Manzoorul Islam’s novel, titled “Tin Parber Jibon O Kichhu Bastab Case Study,” playwright Anisul Haque and Farooki jointly wrote the script for the film.
Featuring interrelationships among a convict serving a life sentence, his wife and an amateur singer, the film poses a question: can a woman, on her own, lead a secure life in our society?
“Third Person Singular Number” has been produced by Impress Telefilm Ltd. Tisha, Mosharraf Karim and Topu have played the central characters in the film.
Legendary Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami is leading the jury board at the festival.
